Rule #3

Rule number 3 for better health: Breathe! I once attempted to go a whole day without breathing… I didn’t last very long! That’s a little joke I give when coach my clients on breathing. Breathing may be the most important yet overlooked aspect when working out or even during a typical day. Of course, we all know how to breathe or do we? Dysfunctional breathing occurs when an individual shortens their breath creating the overuse of secondary respiratory muscle instead of using their diaphragm. This can create a number of side effect including poor posture, lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea and can even create anxiety. When an individual has shallow breathing they can create an altered carbon dioxide levels in their body, lowering the amount of oxygen in the blood. This can effect the muscles creating muscle fatigue. By focusing on proper breathing techniques, not only during exercise but throughout the whole day, people can feel better, have more energy and tackle the day with full gusto!
